Company was the only gypsum wallboard manufacturer to make the 2019 list

CHARLOTTE, NC (May 21, 2019) – National Gypsum, the largest American-owned gypsum wallboard producer, was recently named to Forbes magazine’s list of America’s Best Midsize Employers for the second consecutive year. The company was the only gypsum wallboard manufacturer to make the 2019 list.

National Gypsum ranked No. 151 overall on the Forbes list, moving up significantly from its ranking of No. 393 in 2018. The company also was recognized by The Charlotte Observer in 2017 when it ranked No. 8 on the publication’s list of Charlotte’s 55 Top Workplaces.

“We are certainly delighted to be recognized by Forbes magazine for the second year in a row,” said Vice President of Human Resources Dennis Merriam. “It’s particularly rewarding to know this honor comes as a result of our own associates’ ratings, and it reinforces the type of collaborative culture we are striving to promote through our core values and essential behaviors.”

Forbes partnered with market research company Statista to identify the top 500 midsize employers across more than 25 industries, including banking and financial services, engineering and manufacturing, universities, government agencies and more.

The independent survey was conducted using an online access panel, providing a representative sample of 50,000 employees working part- or full-time for companies and institutions employing more than 1,000 employees in the U.S. Participation in the survey was voluntary and respondents were recruited from thousands of sources to maximize the reach and presentation.

Each employee was asked which firm or institution he or she works for, in an open-ended question with an autofill-option. Where appropriate, subsidiaries of larger entities were combined for evaluation.

The evaluation was based on two distinct criteria from employees: direct (rating their own company on a scale of 0-10) and indirect recommendations (evaluating other employers in their respective industries.) Employees were also asked to respond to 35 questions to gauge their opinions on a series of statements surrounding work- related topics including working conditions, salary, potential for development and company image regarding their current employer.

National Gypsum is dedicated to providing an environment its employees feel safe and valued in. Attracting and retaining people who are committed to excellence and offering a work environment that recognizes growth and contribution are just two of the company’s main values.
