National Gypsum Purchases Site for West Coast Plant
National Gypsum Company, a leading manufacturer of gypsum wallboard, announced today it has finalized its purchase of the site for a new state-of-the-art wallboard plant in Eloy, AZ.
National Gypsum has purchased property along Sunshine Boulevard in Eloy, with convenient access to Interstate 8, Interstate 10, and the Union Pacific Railroad which has committed to provide rail service to the new wallboard plant. It is investing approximately $140 million for the project. Plant operations will be based on National Gypsum’s successful low-cost model, supported by a nearby gypsum rock source, high-speed technology, direct rail access, and large-scale production.
“We have forged an excellent working relationship with the City of Eloy, Mayor Byron Jackson, and the Casa Grande Economic Development Foundation,” said CEO Thomas C. Nelson. “We look forward to a long and mutually beneficial partnership.”
The new facility will bring up to 100 direct jobs and an additional 150 indirect jobs to the community. Zoning for the plant and a development agreement regarding infrastructure for the site and other related matters were approved by the Eloy City Council on January 22.
