Company CEO Tom Nelson "Business Person of the Year"

The Charlotte Business Journal named National Gypsum Company CEO Tom Nelson
“Business Person of the Year for 2006.” Nelson was selected “Business Person of
the Year” by a 13-member panel consisting of community and business leaders.
Nominees for this award were selected on four criteria: financial performance, personal
qualities, managerial skills, and contributions to Charlotte’s strength as a city.
In addition to his leadership at National Gypsum Company, Nelson is active in the
Charlotte community, serving on several civic boards. He will chair the Charlotte
Chamber of Commerce next year.
Nelson also recently received honors from the Harvard Joint Center for Housing Policy
Advisory Board. Harvard University President Derek Bok praised him for his leadership
of this board. A Harvard alumnus, Nelson served as board chairperson for the past
two years. Board membership includes leading companies in the residential construction
and building products industry.

interior finishing products, and cement board to the construction industry. It has
a network of 20 wallboard plants in North America, in addition to interior finishing
products and cement board plants, paper mills, and gypsum mines and quarries.
