National Gypsum's PermaBase® Cement Board features a unique, patented edge, called
EdgeTech®. The strong, rounded edges prevent cracking and crumbling during installation.
These edges also protect the board during transit and handling at the jobsite. PermaBase
is used as underlayment/backerboard for tile floors, walls, and countertops and
as an exterior sheathing.
In 1998, National Gypsum acquired Unifix, Inc., a Canadian manufacturer
of cement backerboard with operations in Bromont, Quebec. After the purchase, National
Gypsum completed a plant near Jacksonville, FL. It has built two additional plants
near Dallas, TX, and in Clinton, IN. National Gypsum currently sells PermaBase in
16 countries.
